Ecological Surveys and Enhancement for Fanling Golf Course

The Fanling Golf Course is located to the southwest of the new towns at Sheung Shui and Fanling. Unbeknownst to many, the Fanling Golf Course is home to a surprisingly diverse suite of wild animals and plants, including locally protected, regionally endemic, and globally endangered species.

Since 2018, aec has been conducting regular ecological surveys and monitoring at the 172 hectare golf course to document the wildlife present in the facility. Through dedicated surveys and cutting-edge remote sensing techniques, aec’s professional ecologists have recorded many species new to the site, deepening our understanding of Fanling Golf Course as a wildlife habitat.

In addition, aec assisted Hong Kong Golf Club in transforming the course into a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. To achieve this, aec devised a series of ecological enhancement measures to further increase biodiversity value. Fanling Golf Course became fully certified at the start of 2020.
