Wetland Creation and Management for MTR Lok Ma Chau Spur Line

In the early 2000’s under the MTR Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Project, an ecological enhancement scheme of a commercial fishpond area adjacent to the proposed railway station was approved, resulting in the formation of the Ecological Enhancement Area (EEA).

aec experts worked closely with various stakeholders in advising and overseeing the design and creation of the Lok Ma Chau EEA. Since its completion in 2006, aec has implemented adaptive conservation management with long-term ecological monitoring at the Lok Ma Chau EEA for conservation purposes. With our dedicated management advice, the Lok Ma Chau EEA is now a key site for a wide variety of species of conservation significance, including the rare and declining Eurasian Otter (Lutra lutra) and the globally-threatened Black-faced Spoonbill (Platalea minor).
