Following the Environmental Impact Assessment for the MTR West Rail Line, a series of mitigation wetlands was created along the railway in the Kam Tin area to compensate for loss of freshwater wetland habitats.
After the completion of works, aec has been implementing adaptive conservation management with long-term ecological monitoring for the West Rail Line mitigation wetland since 2004. Under aec’s effort, these wetlands have become well-established, providing habitats for a wide range of wetland-dependent wildlife from birds and dragonflies to amphibians and reptiles.
